Kingdom Kids is the name of our ministry to children ages 5 to 11. It is a fast paced time of kid style worship, teaching, skits and multi media. Our goal goes beyond the entertaining of kids for an hour. Each child leaves Kingdom Kids charged and challenged to live what they have learned on a daily basis.
Last month I was admitted to the hospital for the first time in my life. Well, the second time if you count the day I was born. Tests and scans were run, shots were given and blood was taken but the thing that makes me want to tell you all this was a certain test that was taken repeatedly. It was a test of my vital signs. A nurse would come in and test my blood pressure, heart rate and temperature. They came in at 3:30 in the morning, flipped on the lights and insisted it was time to get a reading of my vitals.
Parents, I'm telling you all this to make a point. These nurses were consistent and extremely committed to their task of watching over me and staying on top of what my body was doing. I began to ask myself am I as consistent with my spiritual vital signs as the nurses were with my physiology? Is my attitude in check? Am I getting enough to drink of the living water of the Word of God? How about your children? Have you checked their spiritual vital signs lately? It is especially important now that they are in school most of the day to "run a check" when they get home. Ask them how their day went and allow them permission to tell you the good and the bad without them feeling like they will get in trouble for what they say. Are there anxieties or fears that need to be addressed? Are there any bad habits beginning to form that need to be dealt with? How is your child's devotional life?
Here in Kingdom kids we stress more how the kids live outside of the church environment than inside the children's church room. In the school, the playground and the neighborhood his where true Christianity is to be practiced in the lives of our kids. What they learn on Sunday morning can be walked out in a practical way throughout the week. So parents, here's my prescription for good spiritual health: Take two gosPILLS and call on Him every morning and let's keep our vital signs in check.
